THT Farmer Academy Showcases Research at Thailand Research Expo 2024

Dr. Thadthong Bhrammanee, Head of the THT Farmer Academy project, based on the principles of New Theory Agriculture, along with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pratchaya Mukda and Assoc. Prof. Krit Chaiwong, presented their research at the Thailand Research Expo 2024, held from August 26-30, 2024. Their work was featured through both an exhibition and a lecture session.

The presentation was supported by the Thonghathai Farmer Academy network, which participated in knowledge-sharing activities. Key contributors included:

• The Na Yang Community-Based Ecotourism Group, Cha-am District

• Pa Pom’s Veggie View Farm in Cha-am District

• Cha-Am Agricultural Learning Center

• Students from the Digital Content and Game Development Program

The Thonghathai (THT) Farmer Academy Learning Management Project introduced the concept of managing nature with nature, showcasing methods such as using vetiver grass for soil conservation. Attendees were encouraged to participate in hands-on demonstrations and interactive experiences. Additionally, key discussions covered topics related to soil, water, and forests, including:

• Organic fertilizer production from cattle manure under the Royal Cattle Buffalo Bank for Farmers project 

• Organic rice farming in accordance with Organic Thailand standards

•  Conservation and sustainable use of Thai medicinal plants

• Development of a social laboratory for agricultural learning and social innovation

This initiative aims to enhance knowledge and promote sustainable agriculture, empowering local communities and fostering an environmentally conscious communitiy; based on the concept that the story of the mountain can be told all year long.

Additionally, the Thonghathai Farmer Academy showcased two creative projects developed by its network members:

"Rak Sai Nam: The Wooden Long Boat"; this creative work integrates soil, water, and forest management into the learning process at the Thonghathai Farmer Academy in Phetchaburi Province. It highlights the importance of waterways in everyday life, from livelihoods and recreation to cultural traditions. Creators: Songtham Thaiburi, Phongsak Labap, and Phuchissa Thaiburi

"Rak Pa Mai: The Krajood Handbag with Floral Embroidery"; a collaboration between the Thonghathai Farmer Academy and the Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation, facilitated by the National Park, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation Volunteer Group in Na Yang, Cha-am District, Phetchaburi Province. This handcrafted piece blends traditional artistry with ecological awareness, using natural materials to create floral designs that symbolize the community’s dedication to conserving natural resources.
